Two more people died while being transported from the scene, local media reported. In total, 49 people were injured.
The accident, in which both women and children lost their lives, occurred in a mountainous region north of the city. The bus overturned on the steep terrain and firefighters reportedly had to dig out the injured bus passengers.
In February this year, 16 people died when a bus overturned in northeastern Brazil.
