Rainwater has flooded the Brahmaputra River, sweeping away homes and forcing hundreds of thousands to seek shelter in government relief camps. According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, those affected are being provided with food and other essentials.
Almost 900 villages have been flooded and more than 7,000 homes are without electricity, he said.
The rescue operation for stranded residents continues.
