Participants in "Gay Pride" and LGBT rights protesters attempted to gather in central Istanbul despite local authorities' bans and closures of squares and gathering places.
One of at least 50 people who were arrested on Sunday afternoon was journalist Muberra Unsal.
"Journalists covering Istanbul's Pride were met with illegal intervention again this year. Despite repeatedly identifying herself as a journalist, Unsal was detained," writes the Turkish Journalists' Union on X.
Homosexuality is not banned in Turkey, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has continuously cracked down on the country's LGBTQ movement, and Pride has been banned since 2015.
