The attack took place in an area along the Blue Nile, near the border with Ethiopia. According to Emergency Lawyers, which monitors the civil war, 41 internally displaced people were killed. Several of them were reportedly children, and dozens more were injured.
The organization blames the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are fighting Sudan’s regular army.
The UN’s humanitarian coordination agency OCHA condemns the attack and calls on the international community to demand accountability for the many abuses suffered by Sudan’s civilian population.
At least 150,000 people are estimated to have been killed during the three and a half years of war. More than 12 million have been forced from their homes.
