At least 40 people have died in a shipwreck in northwestern Kongo-Kinshasa, according to local authorities.
In addition, many passengers are missing after the accident, which occurred on Wednesday on Lake Tumba in the Équateur province.
The boat is described as a combination of three larger canoes.
Boat accidents are common in Kongo-Kinshasa. In mid-April, an accident occurred in Équateur where tens of people are reported to have died, and about two years ago, around 50 people died in a boat accident in the province.
