The information on Friday about the number of people arrested at the protest comes from a lawyers' group, CHD, which examines and defends human rights in Turkey.
“At two o'clock (local time) the number of people deprived of their liberty was 370,” CHD wrote on X. The demonstration in Istanbul, organized by trade unions, was surrounded by a large police presence, including riot police.
Two demonstration marches targeted the symbolically important Taksim Square, leading police to completely block the square.
The anti-regime demonstrations in Istanbul were accompanied by similar protests around Turkey.
