The overcrowded bus was on its way to the capital, Addis Ababa, from the Dessie area when it veered off the road and fell into a ravine, the police authority in the town of Kombolcha in central Ethiopia reported.
The accident occurred on a road that winds through hilly terrain in an area that lacks basic infrastructure and ambulance services.
Around 30 people died due to delayed rescue efforts, AP reports. Many injured people had to be transported by public transport.
The cause of the accident is still unclear.
In December 2024, 66 people died when a bus plunged into a river in Ethiopia's southern Sidama region.
