At Least 30 Killed in Drone Strike on Food Market in Sudan’s Nyala

At least 30 people have been killed in a drone attack on a food market in the Sudanese city of Nyala. The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) accuse the Sudanese army, their adversary in the civil war, of carrying out the attack.

The attack, which took place on Friday morning, could be one of the deadliest in the RSF-controlled strongholds in the West Darfur region. Around 50 people were injured in the attack and are being treated in hospitals, according to local hospital sources.

The RSF, which is fighting Sudan’s regular army, accused the army of carrying out the attack with Turkish-made drones. Both the RSF and the Sudanese army are increasingly using drones in the war.

The civil war between the RSF and the Sudanese army has claimed more than 200,000 lives since it broke out in the spring of 2023.
