At Least 30 Killed in Attack on Market in Yemen’s Taiz Province, Both Sides Trade Blame

At least 30 people were killed in an attack on a market in Yemen’s Taiz province on Friday, the Houthi movement said, accusing Saudi Arabia of carrying it out. Local authorities instead blamed the Houthis.

“Saudi warplanes carried out several attacks on the market in the city of Al-Waziya,” said Anis al-Asbahi, spokesman for the Houthi-controlled Health Ministry, in a statement carried by the movement’s Saba news agency.

The internationally recognized, Saudi-backed government denies that Saudi Arabia was behind the attack and instead blames the Houthis, who are supported by Iran.

Authorities in Taiz also accuse the Houthi movement of “indiscriminate” shelling.
