This is according to military and hospital sources who spoke to AFP.
Sinja, the capital of Sennar state, is strategically located about 300 kilometers southeast of Khartoum.
The attack comes a day after the government announced its return to Khartoum after being based in the port city of Port Sudan for almost three years.
The bloody civil war between Sudan's regular army and the paramilitary RSF broke out in April 2023. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and over eleven million people have been displaced.
