At least 22 people have died. The death toll could rise, according to Abdullahi Khalif, the administrative chief of Makueni district.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear. Speeding and poor road conditions have previously been identified as contributing factors to traffic accidents in Kenya.
Just three weeks ago, 17 people died in an accident along the same road.
