A factory blew up on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, authorities counted 26 confirmed dead, while around 60 people were injured.

Because the area is full of warehouses storing fireworks and explosives, fires are breaking out everywhere, state-run Chinese media report. Hundreds of firefighters and other rescue workers have been called to the scene.

Fireworks were invented in China over 1,000 years ago. Liuyang is known as one of the earliest places where fireworks were manufactured, and the city's products are still held in high regard in China.
