Another 61 people were injured in the explosion that occurred in the city of Changsha in the eastern part of the country on Monday afternoon, local time.
Nearly 500 rescue workers were called to the scene and people in the danger zone were evacuated.
The cause of the explosion is still unclear, but authorities say that "safety measures" have been taken against the company that owns the factory, without providing further details.
