Six of them died and 30 were injured when they were waiting for food packages at a distribution center in central Gaza, according to the civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal.
Bassal claims that the crowd was shot at by Israel with bullets and artillery fire. Israel's military is reported to be investigating the allegations.
The distribution center in question belongs to the criticized Israeli-American organization Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which began its efforts to distribute emergency aid in Gaza at the end of May. This happened after Israel's blockade in the spring and after the UN and other established organizations were shut out.
GHF has been heavily criticized, its strict selection and digital surveillance of those who receive help is described by experts as an attempt to use food as a military weapon. And many Palestinians have lost their lives when they were shot at in the crowd of hungry people waiting for food packages.
According to Israel, they only shoot at people who behave suspiciously and pose a threat.
Gaza is ruled by the terrorist-stamped Hamas, whose attack on Israel in October 2023 triggered the ongoing Gaza war.
