Among the identified victims so far are 16 civilians and one soldier. Several people are also reported to have been kidnapped.
The people are reported to have been killed by members of the militia group ADF, which is believed to have ties to the jihadist movement Islamic State.
In the attack on the village, several houses and shops were also set on fire.
The area, which borders Rwanda, has been affected by violence for many years.
