At least 17 people have died in widespread landslides in Indonesia after several days of heavy rain.

The landslides buried parts of a village in the western part of the island nation early Saturday. More than 50 houses have been seriously damaged and more than 650 people have been evacuated.

According to local rescue leaders, dozens of people are still missing and more landslides are feared.

Four marines are among the confirmed dead, and 19 soldiers remain missing, according to the military. The marines were training in the area ahead of a deployment to the border with Papua New Guinea.
