The attack occurred at a roadside checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, a spokesman for the emergency services said. Some of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The Pakistani Taliban, TTP, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
There has been a sharp increase in militant attacks in Pakistan in recent years, with the TTP and the separatist group BLA (Baloch Liberation Army) claiming responsibility for many of the attacks.
