At least 11 children have died after a fire broke out at an orphanage in a suburb of the Algerian capital, Algiers, according to the emergency services. Nineteen people, including several minors, were also injured in the fire.
The authority said firefighting efforts are ongoing and that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Algeria has been hit by a heatwave for several days, and around 1,000 fires have been registered in the past week.
