AstraZeneca reportedly bids $10 billion for US biotech Rhythm Pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceutical group AstraZeneca has made a bid worth SEK 97 billion for US-listed Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, sources told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

AstraZeneca reportedly made the $10 billion bid in October. It would pay $124 per share for Rhythm, which specializes in treatments for metabolic diseases and severe obesity.

Since the bid was announced, Rhythm's share price rose 28 percent on Wednesday to just under $111.

A purchase would expand AstraZeneca's portfolio of treatments for rare diseases.
