A phase 3 study conducted with Ionis Pharmaceuticals shows that the drug Wainua did not meet its goals in treating heart problems in patients with the rare disease transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy.
Wainua injections are already used to treat problems related to the disease, which damages nerves and organs through misfolded proteins.
Correction: In a previous version, the disease for which Wainua was tested was incorrectly named.
