AstraZeneca shares tumble 9.5% after Wainua phase 3 setback in rare heart disease study

A phase 3 study conducted with Ionis Pharmaceuticals shows that the drug Wainua did not meet its goals in treating heart problems in patients with the rare disease transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy.

Wainua injections are already used to treat problems related to the disease, which damages nerves and organs through misfolded proteins.

Correction: In a previous version, the disease for which Wainua was tested was incorrectly named.
