Team boss Adrian Newey admits that Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll will not drive as many laps in the World Championship season opener in Melbourne on Sunday because vibrations from the cars are being transmitted to their hands.

“Fernando feels he can’t do 25 laps in a row before he risks permanent nerve damage in his hands. Lance feels he can’t do more than 15 laps before he hits the threshold,” Newey says.

We will need to severely limit how many laps we do in the race until we get a handle on the source of the vibration and can address it.

The team was hesitant about even going to the season opener, but is now in Melbourne.
