Dutch ASML, which manufactures chip equipment, is investing 1.3 billion euros in the French company Mistral, which develops AI models and a chatbot.

With the investment, equivalent to just over 14 billion kronor, ASML will become the largest shareholder in Mistral with an 11 percent ownership stake, according to a statement from the companies.

ASML's CEO Christophe Fouquet says that the deal's primary purpose is to integrate AI within the company rather than building a European AI challenger.

–We want to flood the entire ASML organization with AI, says Fouquet in an interview.
