South Korea's Kospi is up 3.6 percent at lunchtime, following gains by several of the stock market's heavyweights. For example, Samsung Electronics is up 4.1 percent and Seoul Semiconductor is up 6.0 percent.
On Friday, South Korean SK Hynix will also be listed on the American Nasdaq. The company is a supplier to chip giant Nvidia, among other things, and rose 1.5 percent in South Korea during morning trading.
In Tokyo, technology-focused investment company SoftBank climbed by a whopping 11.6 percent. Overall, the Nikkei 225 increased by 1.7 percent and the Topix by 0.7 percent.
In China, Shenzhen is up 0.6 percent and Shanghai is up 0.5 percent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng is up 1.5 percent.
