Asian stocks open mixed as South Korea’s Kospi drops 4%

After a weekend of continued unrest and attacks in the Middle East, moves among Asian indices are not entirely consistent.

In China, the Shanghai Stock Exchange climbed 0.7 percent, while Shenzhen fell 0.9 percent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.9 percent.

In South Korea, the Kospi is falling sharply and is down 4.0 percent around midday local time.

In Tokyo, Japan, the stock market is closed due to a public holiday.
