South Korea's Kospi continues to recover after last week's declines and is up 0.9 percent around lunchtime.
In China, stock market performance is mixed. Tech-heavy Shenzhen is up 0.5 percent, while Shanghai is around unchanged. Hong Kong-based Hang Seng falls by 0.6 percent.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange is closed for the weekend.
