Rising tensions in Yemen and attacks on Saudi oil facilities by the Houthi movement pushed oil prices higher on Wednesday. Brent crude futures for December were up 0.9 percent at 5 a.m. local time in Sweden, CNBC reported.
Asian stock markets fell in response.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.9 percent at the same time, while the broader Topix fell 0.6 percent.
South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.8 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.7 percent.
The stock exchanges in Shanghai and Shenzhen were closed.
