Japan's Nikkei 225 index is up 1.6 percent, while the broader Topix is slightly lower at 0.9 percent.
In China, Shanghai is up 0.8 percent, while Shenzhen climbs 1.3 percent.
The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng is also up 0.7 percent.
