The major Asian indices appear to have recovered from Wednesday's broad decline. In early trading on Thursday, they were all up.

After yesterday's plunge, Japanese indices recovered slightly in opening trade. Shortly after lunch local time, both the Nikkei 225 and the broader Topix had risen 1.4 percent.

South Korea's Kospi had risen 1.7 percent at the same time.

Chinese indices also turned higher on Thursday. Shanghai rose 0.9 percent while Shenzhen climbed 1.4 percent.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.6 percent.
