The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng rose 1.1 percent and Shanghai gained 0.4 percent.
The Japanese Nikkei 225 index is following the trend, up 1.1 percent at lunchtime while the broader Topix is down 0.1 percent.
Shenzhen is also down 0.4 percent.
