Also on Wednesday, there were mostly gloomy faces on Asia's leading stock exchanges. After a few hours of trading, both Tokyo's Nikkei 225 and the Topix index were down 1 and 0.5 percent, respectively.
Shanghai's composite index had dipped 0.1 percent at the same time, while Shenzhen's composite index pointed down 0.6.
Hong Kong, on the other hand, went against the trend when the stock exchange reopened after being closed on Tuesday. The Hang Seng index was up 0.6 percent.
