China's retail sales rose last month at the slowest pace since May, according to official figures, but reactions on the stock markets were subdued.

Shenzhen was up 0.1 percent, while Shanghai was little changed. Hong Kong-based Hang Seng, on the other hand, was down 0.3 percent.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.9 percent around lunchtime, while the broader Topix was unchanged.

South Korea's Kospi reversed yesterday's fall to rise 0.5 percent.
