Japan's Nikkei 225 index rose 2.4 percent in Thursday trading, while the broader Topix rose 0.1 percent.
South Korea's Kospi rose 0.5 percent.
The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng and the Chinese Shanghai and Shenzhen markets are closed for the weekend.
