Asian Stock Markets Rise After US-China Meeting Announcement

The major stock exchanges in Asia opened upwards on Friday, the day after the announcement that the presidents of the US and China will meet next week.

The White House confirmed on Thursday that Donald Trump will meet Xi Jinping in South Korea's capital Seoul on October 30.

When the Asian stock exchanges opened on Friday, it was all upwards for the major indexes.

The South Korean Kospi climbed 2.0 percent in the initial trading.

In China, Shenzhen rose 1.3 percent and Shanghai 0.4 percent.

The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng had risen 0.5 percent by lunchtime and the Japanese Nikkei 225 1.6 percent.
