Asian stock markets were down earlier this week after the US and Iran resumed attacks on each other. But in Thursday's trading, the mood was more upbeat.

Japan's Nikkei 225 index is up 0.2 percent, while the broader Topix is up 1.0 percent.

South Korea's Kospi climbed 1.4 percent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.3 percent.

Shanghai is up 0.4 percent and Shenzhen is unchanged.
