China's Shenzhen is one of the biggest gainers in early trading, up 1.3 percent, while Shanghai is up 0.1 percent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng is climbing 1.1 percent.
In South Korea, however, the Kospi is down 0.2 percent.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange is closed Wednesday.
