South Korean Kospi hit a record on an otherwise gloomy Thursday among the Asian stock exchanges.

The Kospi's rise of 0.4 percent follows a decision by the country's central bank to leave the interest rate unchanged.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 has fallen by 1.3 percent and the Topix by 0.5 percent at lunchtime.

Chinese Shanghai and Shenzhen are both in the minus with 0.7 and 0.8 percent respectively.

The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng is unchanged.
