Asian Stock Markets Mixed as Oil Prices Climb

Asia's leading stock exchanges started the trading week unevenly. At the same time, the oil price is rising.

Development is taking place against the backdrop of the USA bombing three nuclear facilities in Iran over the weekend.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 and also the broader Topix index had, around lunch, local time, fallen by 0.4 percent.

The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was down 0.1 percent after a few hours of trading.

The composite index in Shanghai and Shenzhen showed an increase of around 0.2 percent.

Unrest in the Middle East means that the price of crude oil is rising. A barrel of North Sea oil, brent, costs 78.4 dollars and the American WTI oil is at 75.2 dollars per barrel. This means increases of just over 1.8 percent.
