After Wednesday's sharp decline, South Korea's Kospi is rebounding after Samsung presented its interim report. At lunchtime, the index is up 1.6 percent.
Japan's Nikkei 225 is also up 1.3 percent. However, the broader Topix is down 0.3 percent.
Shenzhen is the day's biggest loser, down 3.5 percent. Shanghai is down 0.9 percent.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index is down 0.1 percent.
