Following the weekend's announcement of a peace settlement between Iran and the US, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, among others, surged on Monday, reaching a new record high. Tuesday's trading, however, was more cautious, with the broad Topix index hovering around zero at the close while the Nikkei 225 was up 0.5 percent.
During the day, the country's central bank raised the key interest rate by 0.25 percentage point to 1.00 percent, which was in line with market expectations.
In Seoul, the Kospi index was up 2.0 percent, while the Hong Kong-based Hang Seng index was down 1.4 percent.
