Asian stock markets fall at the open, with Hong Kong hit hardest

The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng, where e-commerce giant Shein was listed during the day, is among the biggest decliners, down 1.1 percent. Shortly after the opening, newcomer Shein's shares had fallen more than nine percent, according to AFP.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 is down 0.4 percent, while the broader Topix index is bucking the trend and up 0.5 percent.

Chinese Shenzhen is down 1.0 percent and Shanghai 0.2 percent.

The Kospi in South Korea is also lower, by 0.5 percent.
