After fresh attacks between the United States and Iran in recent days, the parties have reportedly agreed to a pause in the attacks, several media outlets reported, citing sources, as stock markets opened for a new week in Asia.

Price movements are initially cautious. In Tokyo, the Topix is down 0.1 percent and the Nikkei 225 is down 0.7 percent.

In China, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange is down 0.8 percent while Shanghai is up 0.2 percent. Hong Kong's Hang Seng is one of Monday's exceptions, climbing 1.9 percent.

The Kospi in South Korea also stands out with slightly larger movements - but in the other direction. By lunchtime, the index had fallen by 1.6 percent.
