The KOSPI in South Korea fell as much as 4.6 percent this morning.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was down 0.9 percent by lunchtime. The broader Topix index was down by the same amount.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.3 percent.
Shenzhen was down 1.0 percent and Shanghai was up 0.1 percent.
