In Tokyo, Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 2.6 percent, while the broader Topix lost 2.7 percent.
In South Korea, trading was even worse: At lunchtime, the Kospi was down a hefty 5.6 percent.
Stock markets in China also had a shaky Wednesday. Shenzhen fell 3.5 percent and Shanghai fell 1.8 percent. However, Shanghai-based newly listed Unitree Robotics - which manufactures humanoid robots - surged more than 500 percent on its first day on the stock exchange, CNBC reports.
The Hong Kong-listed Hang Seng was unchanged.
