Japan's main index, the Nikkei 225, is up 0.5 percent after the country released its latest trade statistics. However, the broader Topix is going in the other direction, falling 0.6 percent.
In China, Shenzhen and Shanghai show small gains of 0.2 and 0.1 percent, respectively. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng is down 1.5 percent.
In Seoul, South Korea, the Kospi is down 0.2 percent.
