Asian Markets Show Mixed Response After Trump Extends EU Tariff Pause

European and American stock markets rose after US President Donald Trump announced that he would extend his tariff pause against the EU until July 9.

However, on Asian stock markets, the development has been mixed in the initial Monday trading.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei 225 index was up 0.5 percent shortly after lunch local time, while the Topix index indicated a plus of 0.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index stood at minus 1.1 percent, while Shanghai and Shenzhen's composite index indicated minus 0.3 and 0.4 percent.

Futures trading for S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 rose by 1 percent after Trump's statements, and contracts for Euro Stoxx 50 rose by 1.5 percent, reports Bloomberg.
