The leading Asian stock exchanges were divided in early Wednesday trading ahead of Donald Trump's announcement about tariffs, which the American president will announce late in the evening Swedish time.
In Shanghai and Shenzhen, the mood was fairly good as the composite index rose by 0.2 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
A similar mood could be sensed in Hong Kong, where the Hang Seng index increased by 0.5.
In Tokyo, on the other hand, the important Nikkei 225 index fluctuated around zero at lunchtime, while the broader Topix index fell by 0.6.
South Korea's Kospi index was simultaneously at minus 0.2 percent.
