In Tokyo, the important Nikkei 225 had increased by 1 percent, while the broader Topix index added 0.7 percent.
Hong Kong joined in the upbeat tone as the Hang Seng index rose 0.5 percent.
It was also cheerful in Shanghai and Shenzhen, whose composite index stood at 0.5 and 0.7 percent, respectively.
It was all the more cheerful in South Korea – where investors celebrated the filling of the country's power vacuum with the election of President Lee Jae-Myung – whose Kospi index surged 2.4 percent.
