Asian Stocks Rise After Sharp Losses Last Week, Led by South Korea and China

Asia's leading stock markets are rising in early trading on Monday.

The gains came after sharp declines last week, which were fueled in part by several weak reports from technology giants.

China's Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.2 percent at midday, while the Shenzhen Composite Index gained 2.4 percent.

South Korea's Kospi rose 2.0 percent. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.4 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 0.6 percent. Japan's Topix, however, bucked the trend, falling 0.4 percent.
