In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index was down 1.4 percent local time, while the Topix index stood at minus 0.7 percent.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index was simultaneously down 1.5 percent. The Shanghai and Shenzhen composite indices were down 0.3 and 0.9 percent.

South Korea's Kospi index was down 0.7 percent.

Even the futures trading in the USA showed declines, down 0.2 percent.

It was during the night to Thursday Swedish time that a panel of three federal judges in the US court for international trade announced their ruling to block Trump's import tariffs on many trading partners, including the EU and China.

The Trump administration appealed the decision and late on Thursday announced that a higher court would allow the tariffs to remain in effect until the legal process is settled in a higher instance.
