Despite a weekend that included a new closure of the Strait of Hormuz and an attack on an Iranian cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman, several Asian indices are seeing cautious increases.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange is rising in early trading, and the Nikkei 225 was up 0.9 percent by lunchtime. The broader Topix was climbing by 0.7 percent at the same time.
The trend looks similar in China. The tech-heavy Shenzhen Stock Exchange was up 0.8 percent and Shanghai was up 0.6 percent. The Hong Kong-based Hang Seng was also up 0.6 percent.
South Korea's Kospi is seeing a more pronounced rise and was up 1.2 percent around 12:00 local time.
