Together with fellow astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, he shot out of Earth's orbit toward the moon just before 2 a.m. Friday, local time in Sweden.
The astronauts say they were "glued to the window" to take pictures, which they also shared on Good Friday.
Nothing can prepare you for the breathtaking experience of seeing your home planet both lit up as if it were daytime and the moon shining over it at night with the beautiful glow of sunset, says Christina Koch.
The Orion spacecraft is now scheduled to orbit the moon before returning to Earth. The space mission is the first in 53 years to have the moon as its destination.
